DescriptionApplicationsMethodsPhotograph

DESCRIPTION

Power-Prep PLE™ System

Power-Prep/PLE ™ is a high speed Pressurized Liquid Extraction system for Dioxins, PCBs, Pesticides, PAHs and BFRs analysis. With the Power-Prep/PLE™, one just needs to load solid or liquid samples into the PLE cartridges, and  press the start key. The entire extraction are performed automatically and unattended producing excellent precision and high recoveries.

This system uses low cost Disposable filtration as well as disposable stainless steel extraction Cartridges. This feature allows samples containing ppq to >ppb target analytes be extracted on the same unit.

Parallel sample processing, real time plotting of Temperature & pressure,  trouble free operation   as well as economical pricing

Make Power-Prep/PLE the system of choice for environmental labs.

The following samples can be deposited directly to Power-Prep/PLE™ cartridges:

Meat, fish, cheese, soil, serum

Principles of  PLE™ Operation

The PLE™ (Pressurized Liquid extraction) works similar to Soxhlet  extraction, with the exception that during the extraction process the solvents inside the PLE™ extraction cartridge are near their supercritical region which has high extraction properties. In the physical  region the high temperature makes possible the high solubility and high diffusion rate While the high pressure keeps the solvent below its boiling point. At high pressure and high temperatures the solvents penetrate the solid samples at a much higher rate permitting a fast and efficient extraction process with minimal solvent usage.

To operate the PLE™, 5 to 100 grams of the sample is mixed with sodium sulfate, loaded in the extraction cartridge and capped with two disposable filtration end fittings. The extraction cartridges are clamped inside the unique and easy to use PLE™ cartridge seal cups. Upon pressing the start key, the HPLC pump dispenses the organic solvent of choice, such as Hexane, DCM, Toluene, etc., into the extraction cartridges. The PLE™ control system then starts the pressurization and heating of the samples. The pressure is maintained at 1500-3000 PSI, at temperature  70-200 C degrees. depending on the method. The extracted solvent containing target analytes is then transferred to the Power-Prep for column clean up or collected in collection vessels.

PLE™ Applications

The PLE™ high speed automated extraction system for Dioxins, PCBs, pesticides, and PAH analysis. The large extraction cartridges of the PLE™ allow 100 gm  of  food  samples  such as meat, seeds, feeds as well as  pharmaceutical and  biological samples to be loaded  in  and extracted simultaneously with excellent precision with high recoveries.

Patented Disposable Cartridges

The PLE™ uses low cost disposable cartridges and end cap filters.

The disposable feature of the system allows users to run different concentrations of target compounds without cross contamination problems.

Robust and Reliable sample processing

The PLE™ uses unique extraction cartridges as well as a high pressure   clamp design to ensure trouble free extraction at high pressures and temperatures. This patent pending technique allows robust and reliable sample processing.

Small to large Sample Size

With the PLE™ you can run samples with weight ranges from 5  to 100 grams with the same unit.

Parallel Extraction operation

The PLE™ performs the entire extraction process for 6 samples simultaneously. This feature improves the speed of extraction and increases the precision of the analysis.

Multi Channel operation

The PLE™ is constructed of multiple identical channels which process different samples simultaneously. This feature protects the laboratory against catastrophic interruption of workflow.

DMS 6000 software

The PLE™ uses a PC to control the entire extraction process. The DMS-6000 real time software allows multiple samples to be processed simultaneously.

Multiple method storage

The DMS-6000 Editor   allows multiple methods to be stored in the system. In each method parameters such as time, solvent volume and final temperature can be set for each step.  Pressure and temperature as well as dispensed volumes are displayed every second and stored for future reference.

Real Time Plotting of Pressure and Temperature

The DMS-6000 real time software allows 6 channels of pressure and 6 channels of temperature to be plotted in real time.  This powerful feature allows automatic documentation of the entire extraction data. The temperature and pressure can be superimposed and printed in graphic or tabular format.

Integrated extraction and cleanup

The PLE™ has the unusual flexibility to work as a stand alone extraction system or be interfaced with the  Power-Prep /Cleanup for further column cleanup. This feature of the PLE™ system increases speed and reduces airborne contaminants from entering the extracted solvent, thereby producing high quality sample analysis.

Economical pricing

The PLE™ fits the smallest budgets. Due to its modular design, The PLE™ can be purchased in one or three sample configuration and expanded to six when needed.
